ZYVOX is used to treat certain serious bacterial infections that are often resistant to other antibiotics and it works by interfering with the production of proteins needed by bacteria to grow.

ZYVOX may be taken with a meal or without a meal to prevent stomach problems.
Medications are prescribed according to a dosage schedule which must be completed in order to reap the benefits of the treatment. Lapsed schedules render ZYVOX ineffective. So, never stop in between unless advised by your physician.
One of the best ways to ensure that you do not miss out on a dose is to maintain a fixed regime for consuming ZYVOX each day.
Drug Class and Mechanism

You must maintain a schedule for taking the medicine at the same time each day so that you do not miss out on any doses. But, in the advent of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember so that you can compensate for the loss of the dose.
But, then you may need to adjust your remaining doses accordingly. And if it is almost time for the next dose, then please skip the missed dose and continue with the normal schedule.
Never try to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It may cause adverse effects.
ZYVOX must be stored at a cool and dark place that prevents it from direct exposure to sunlight. It should also be protected from kids and pets. You can store it at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C).
If you are allergic to any ingredient in ZYVOX (you may check medicine label) then please do not use it without consulting your doctor.
You must also avoid using ZYVOX if
you are taking an amphetamine (eg, dextroamphetamine), certain anorexiants (eg, phentermine), a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor (eg, entacapone), levodopa, meperidine, or a sympathomimetic (eg, albuterol, dopamine, epinephrine, pseudoephedrine)
you have taken apraclonidine, bupropion, a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (eg, atomoxetine), a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (eg, duloxetine), or certain anorexiants (eg, sibutramine) within the past 14 days
Ensure that your doctor is aware of your past and current medical history before you start any new treatment or medication. This must include any and all diseases that you have suffered /suffer from, all subscription and over the counter medication that you are taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements. This will help avoid a possible interaction or allergy.
In some cases, the medication might be altered or require special attention if you suffer from conditions like
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have a history of high blood pressure, kidney problems, bone marrow problems, low blood cell or platelet levels, an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), carcinoid syndrome, severe liver problems, seizures, or an overactive thyroid
if you have a prolonged infection that has been previously treated with another antibiotic medicine
if you are taking any medicine for depression
Certain medicines may interact with this drug like
Amphetamines (eg, dextroamphetamine), anorexiants (eg, phentermine, sibutramine), or sympathomimetics (eg, dopamine, epinephrine, pseudoephedrine) because the risk of serious side effects, including severe headache, fever, or high blood pressure, may be increased
Bupropion, COMT inhibitors (eg, entacapone), levodopa, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (eg, atomoxetine), serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (eg, duloxetine, or serotonin reuptake inhibitors (eg, fluoxetine) because the risk of serious side effects, including severe fever, mental or mood changes, or muscle problems, may be increased
Apraclonidine, meperidine, or tryptophan because the risk of serious side effects or toxic effects may be increased
ZYVOX is strictly to be used only for treating bacterial infections. Treatment with ZYVOX for curing viral infections like the common cold will be ineffective.
Extreme stomach cramps followed by bloody or tarry stools have been noticed in some patients using ZYVOX. If you experience something like this, then stop treatment immediately and contact your physician.
Treatment with ZYVOX must be constantly monitored as continuous treatment renders ZYVOX ineffective and leads to a re infection. This re infection is usually severe and cannot be cured by ZYVOX alone.
If you are planning to have a baby or are pregnant already then you must seek advice from your doctor before using ZYVOX. Discuss the effects and possible risks that ZYVOX usage may have on the unborn baby.
If you are breast feeding your child, then too seek medical advice before using ZYVOX. Some drugs may be excreted in the breast milk and may harm the baby.
