However, your doctor may also prescribe Medrol for other conditions if found appropriate.

How to use Medrol

The ideal way to use Medrol is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Medrol may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems.

Preferably, Medrol should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it.

You must not stop taking Medrol without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Medrol is a corticosteroid that alters the immune system’s response to various situations and thereby helps reduce inflammation caused due to several conditions.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Medrol to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.

Storage

Store Medrol at 77 degrees F (25 Degrees) at room temperature. You may store it between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) briefly. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Avoid storing Medrol in the bathroom.

Consult your doctor before using Medrol if you have if you have a history of heart problems (eg, congestive heart failure), heart attack, high blood pressure, kidney problems, liver problems, diabetes, seizures, an underactive thyroid, adrenal gland problems, or any mental or mood problems, if you have or have recently had a fungal, bacterial, viral, or other type of infection; herpes infection of the eye; chickenpox; measles; or shingles, if you have HIV or tuberculosis (TB), or if you have ever had a positive TB skin test, if you have any stomach problems (eg, ulcers), intestinal problems (eg, blockage, perforation, infection, unexplained diarrhea, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis), recent intestinal surgery, or inflammation of the esophagus, if you have weak bones (eg, osteoporosis) or muscle problems (eg, myasthenia gravis), if you have had any recent vaccinations (eg, smallpox), if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use Medrol if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure), you are presently taking mifepristone, you have a systemic fungal infection, you are scheduled to have a smallpox vaccine.

You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Medrol as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.

If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Medrol as Medrol may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Medrol is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

Medrol can interact with certain medicines. So, you must inform your doctor if you are taking Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), lithium, or rifampin, Aprepitant, clarithromycin, cyclosporine, diltiazem, erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or troleandomycin, Aspirin, live vaccines, mifepristone, or ritodrine.

All these drugs have varied reactions with Medrol. While some increase the risk of adverse side effects, others reduce the effectiveness of the drug.

Medrol may affect your blood sugar level so please monitor your blood sugar under the supervision of your doctor.
