Levaquin is a chemotherapeutic agent. It is prescribed for the treatment of severe bacterial infections like several types of sinus infection and pneumonia, flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, acute kidney infections, chronic prostate infections and infections of the skin.
Levaquin must be strictly taken as advised by your doctor. On the other hand, there will be detailed dosage instructions on the medicine label which can be followed.
Levaquin may be taken with or without a meal.
Avoid taking Levaquin for at least 2 hours after you have an antacid as it affects the absorption of the medicine.
In order to get te desired results from the treatment, you must use Levaquin for the complete schedule at the same time each day. Do not stop in between without consulting your doctor.
If you have been prescribed Levaquin according to a regular schedule, then you must not miss a dose. But in case you miss a dose, then take it as soon as you remember.
Then you can space out the other doses of the day accordingly. On the other hand, if there is not enough time for the next dose, then skip this one and continue with your regular dosage schedule.
Never double up (consume two doses at a time) to compensate for the missed dose.
Levaquin is to be stored at room temperature in a cool and dark place. Do not store it in a place that is accessible by kids or pets.
It is always in your best interests if you discuss your complete medical history in detail with your physician before using Levaquin.
Please mention any medical condition you may be suffering from including hypersensitivity towards any quinolones, if you are taking cisapride or certain antiarrhythmics, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.
Do not use Levaquin if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).
You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Levaquin as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.
You must always consult your doctor prior to using Levaquin if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. It is unknown if Levaquin causes any harm to the unborn fetus.
If you are a lactating mother, then please consult your doctor prior to using Levaquin as it is not known whether Levaquin passes into the breast milk.
